The hardwood of the Honey Locust is a light to medium brown, and the sapwood is easily distinguished as light yellow. The Honey Locust is similar in color and grain to the Kentucky Coffeetree. Honey Locust is dense and can be difficult to work with tools on account of its density, though it generally produces good results. It finishes well. The tree is easily identified by the large thorns found of the tree trunk.
